Azerbaijan summons US ambassador over Karabakh event

The US ambassador in Baku, Robert Cekuta, was summoned to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry and handed a note of protest over US diplomat James Warlick’s meetings with separatist officials in Washington.
Warlick, the US co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, attended an event in Washington on Dec. 9 to celebrate the anniversary of Nagorno-Karabakh’s "independence”. He also met the rebel region’s "foreign minister”, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadquliyev told ambassador Cekuta that participation in such events, which are "directed against the sovereignty and territorial integrity” of Azerbaijan, violates the mandate of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, casts doubt on their neutrality and impartiality, and also contradicts US policy on Karabakh.
Mammadquliyev said the ministry had on many occasions protested against the "provision of conditions for agents of the unlawful regime to engage in public campaigns and other activities on American soil.”
This approach "does not help advance the peace process” between Armenia and Azerbaijan complicates the already difficult situation, the ministry said.
