Azerbaijan denies losing soldiers near Karabakh

Several Armenian news websites had earlier said Armenians killed three Azerbaijani soldiers, identifying one of them as "unter officer Eldar Mammadov”.

The Defense Ministry in Baku said on its website there is no such military rank in the Azerbaijani army as "unter officer”.

Two Armenian troops were confirmed killed and another injured in clashes with Azerbaijani forces south and east of Nagorno-Karabakh on Jan. 3.

Armenia captured Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts in a war after the disintegration of the former Soviet Union in 1991.

Armenia refused to comply with four UN Security Council resolutions calling for immediate and unconditional withdrawal from the occupied Azerbaijani territory.
