Total assets across Azerbaijan's banking sector rose by 6.8% in the first half of 2026 compared to year-end 2025, reaching 60.9 billion AZN, stated Atakhan Hasanov, Director of the Financial Stability Department at the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to Hasanov, the banking assets-to-GDP ratio climbed by 2.5 percentage points to 46.7% over the reporting period. The balance-sheet expansion was primarily driven by inflows into retail term deposits, with the number of unique individual depositors surging by 13.6% to 220,600.

On the asset side, net loans totaled 29.9 billion AZN, liquid holdings amounted to 15.4 billion AZN, and other assets reached 15.6 billion AZN. Liabilities were composed of 23 billion AZN in demand deposits, 16.8 billion AZN in term deposits, and 13.6 billion AZN in other liabilities.
