New troop of armed rebels vows to SMASH Islamic State in first attack

New troop of armed rebels vows to SMASH Islamic State in first attack

The newly formed rebel alliance has already attacked Islamic State positions in Syria and has vowed to fight until it forces them out.

It comes just a day after America pledged to send special forces to advise insurgents fighting the jihadists in a bid to beat back ISIS.

The group, known as Democratic Forces of Syria, launched its midnight attack on extremist positions in Syria's north-eastern Hasaka province.

A video posted of the group online shows them brandishing weapons behind their yellow flags, pledging to smash Islamic State fighters in the area.

A commander said they would "continue until all occupied areas in Hasaka are freed from Daesh" – using the Arabic name for ISIS.

He also urged people to steer clear of jihadi positions in the region to avoid getting caught up in the impending attacks.

Another spokesman, Talal Salu, said they had claimed their first victory against Islamic State, flanking its fighters when they attempted a counter-attack.

The rebels will fight alongside Kurdish militia backed by the United States, and several other Syrian Arab groups.

Hasaka province borders Iraq and territory there that is a crucial stronghold for Islamic State.

World powers are convening in Vienna to seek a solution to the four-year long war in Syria after Russia joined the fight against ISIS and started bombing Syria.
