Turkey slams Russia for 'showing off' rocket launcher on warship in Istanbul strait

"The showing off of a missile by a soldier on a Russian warship, or other things such as anti-aircraft weapons, is pure provocation."

The two countries began talks last week after a Russian jet was downed last month by Turkish airforce.

On the same day Vladimir Putin called Turkey's actions a war crime and promised sanctions against it.

Turkey says the Russian SU-24 fighter jet violated its airspace and that it was repeatedly warned – something Russia has denied.

Speaking on the talks, Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said: "We heard nothing new."

Under a World War One treaty, Turkey must let all ships pass through the Bosphorus or as it is sometimes known the Istanbul strait, which runs through the Turkish city.
