Britain and Russia to 'work together' against ISIS as WW3 looms

Britain and Russia to 'work together' against ISIS as WW3 looms
29.05.2020 08:26
The Prime Minister told the Russian leader about Britain's vote to extend air strikes to Syria to defeat the terror group – also known as Daesh.

And he is said to have smoothed things over with Putin, who is looking to join forces in bombing the jihadis.

Now the pair have agreed to work side-by-side to crush ISIS, according to a Downing Street spokesman.

He said: "The Prime Minister and president agreed that the UK and Russia should work together, with other international partners, to tackle Daesh and the threat it poses, and on the political process to bring peace to Syria.

"Agreeing that military action alone would not defeat Daesh, both leaders discussed the importance of a political process to deliver peace in Syria and the Prime Minister underlined the need for a government that all the Syrian people can support."

The agreement comes after Putin warned that nuclear warheads were an option in the fight against Islamic State.

The Russian leader says nuke-ready missiles have been successfully fired from submarines in their new plan to take on Daesh.

Meanwhile government ministers in Moscow were said to be discussing their next steps in regard to military action against Turkey.

The Kremlin is still peeved at the downing of the Russian fighter jet last month with Russian Prime Minister today saying they had grounds for war.

As Britain and Russia struck a deal today, Mr Cameron also said he would consider sending British experts to examine the black box from the doomed fighter plane, and offered condolences for the death of the pilot.

Putin's deputy Medvedev spoke about the prospect of war with Turkey on Russian TV today.

He said: "What did 20th-century countries used to do in a similar situation? A war began."

"That was a direct assault on a foreign state," he said. "In the present situation a war is the worst what could happen."

But Medvedev today said the Kremlin had stepped back from the brink.

"A decision was taken not to give a symmetrical answer to what the Turks had done," he said.

With Turkey a part of NATO and therefore Britain's ally, any verdict the UK could reach using the black box has the potential to be explosive.
