Khomeyni's grandson registers candidacy to run in Iran leadership watchdog polls

Hojjat ol-Eslam val-Moslemin Hasan Khomeyni, the grandson of the late founder of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeyni, on 18 December registered his candidacy in the upcoming Assembly of Experts election, ISNA news agency has reported.

The Iranians will head to the polls on 26 February 2016 to elect a new parliament and a new Assembly of Experts, a body of clerics which elects and supervises the performance of the Supreme Leader, the country's highest authority.

Hasan Khomeyni's brother Ali said earlier that his 43-year-old brother would take part in the polls "as an independent candidate".
