Teen sex mob victim reveals how she was attacked by 30 'Africans and Arabs'

The blonde – named only as Michelle – was one of 90 women sexually assaulted and raped as up to 1,000 men went on the rampage in the centre of Cologne, Germany.

The migrants from Tunisia, Algeria and Syria – many believed to be recent refugees – threw fireworks into the crowd to cause panic before groping and robbing revellers.

Bravely waving her right to anonymity, Michelle told German TV: "They were full of anger and we had to make sure that none of us were pulled away by them.

"They were groping us and we were trying to get away as quickly as possible."

Frightened women have told marched in protest through Germany – demanding security services do something to protect them from the new threat.

Police have described the chilling – and co-ordinated – attacks as "a completely new dimension of crime”.

At least one women was raped in the night of terror.

Michelle told NTV: At around 11pm we were at the main train station and wanted to travel on to see the fireworks – and that was when we first noticed all these men standing around.

"We managed to go into the cathedral and wanted to go past the Museum Ludwig to join everyone and watch the fireworks by the river – but suddenly we were surrounded by a group of between 20 and 30 men."

The girls held hands – to prevent themselves being separated – but as they fled, they felt hands all over their bodies and deep in their pockets.

Michelle's shocking account comes as Cologne's council admitted the city centre was now a "no-go area" for women.

Similar attacks occurred the same night across Hamburg and Stuttgart – also in Germany.

Police in Dusseldorf – in the west of the country – believe the attacks may be linked to a known criminal gang comprising 2,000 North African men – who use sexual assault as a means of distraction.

The country took in around one million asylum seekers last year – many of them fleeing war-ravaged Syria.

German Muslims are demanding police chiefs step down – and demanded more Muslims in the police.

The president of the Central Council for Muslims – Aiman Mazyek – said that the inevitable consequence of the events that happened in Cologne on New Year's Eve was that more policemen with migrant backgrounds were needed to be added to the force.

He said: "Only in this way can we send a stronger message about the defence of democracy and fight against right-wing extremists, who are stoking the fires of hatred against asylum seekers almost daily, calling for the defence of the Christian country and accusing migrants of sexism."

Meanwhile, the police chief in Cologne is refusing to step down despite Muslim groups calling for his resignation and criticism from local politicians.

He said: "It is exactly this time that I am needed.

"We are about to enter the Carnival season, and we really need to get into position.

"At the moment that is my challenge."
