French jet destroys ISIS command centre in bombing raid

The so-called caliphate – also known as Daesh – defeated the Iraqi army to take control of Mosul in June 2014.

France is a key member of the US-led coalition hoping to recapture the northern city and other ISIS strongholds.

The jet took off from an air base in nearby Jordan, where around 250 members of the French military are deployed.

The aerial campaign against ISIS has been stepped up since the shocking Paris terror attacks on November 13.

Some 130 people were killed including Briton Nick Alexander, 36, who was selling band merchandise at the Batalcan concert hall.

Recent bombing raids have focused on ISIS' oil empire amid claims the group is earning millions every week from selling the fuel.

Vladimir Putin accused Turkey of buying oil from the militants in November, saying: "They [ISIS] are protected by the military of an entire nation."

But Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoga denied the Russian leader's allegations – calling on him to provide evidence.
