Is this the greatest name for an animal EVER?

While no-one is quite sure how the fish got its name, some scientists think it fits perfectly.

Dr Gavin Hanke, curator at the Royal BC Museum where the fish is on display, said: "There are some funny names out there for species but this one takes the cake!

The fish is on display at the iconic museum in British Columbia, Canada.

But if you want to spot the comically-named creature in its natural habitat you'll have to dive to 13,000ft depths in tropical oceans.

It's not the first time we've reported on weird animals – in November, The Daily Star Online brought you the mysterious "alien" creature that sent the internet into meltdown.

Although not an alien, the bony-eared assfish is known to have the smallest brain-to-body weight ratio of any known vertebrate.

Twitter users certainly let their feelings clear at the oddly-named fish.
