Youngest ever conjoined twins defy all odds after miracle separation operation

Little Lydia and Maya were extensively conjoined on the liver but had all vital organs at birth.

They weighed just 4lb 14oz together after being born eight weeks premature.

Their conditions became life-threatening.

So a team of 13 doctors performed the pioneering surgery in a desperate bid to separate them.

And the medics say they successfully parted the twins in Bern, Switzerland on December 10

Steffen Berger, head of paediatric surgery at Bern Hospital, said: "Such small conjoined siblings had never been successfully separated before.

"The perfect teamwork of physicians and nursing personnel from various disciplines were the key to success here.

"We are very happy that the children and parents are faring so well now."

In December, miracle twins were "perfectly healthy" despite being born with two heads, four arms and two legs in India.
