Taliban executes 10-year-old commander who led fight against militants

An assassin on a motorbike shot 10-year-old Wasil Ahmad in the head as he left his family's home to buy vegetables.
Wasil was hailed a national hero after leading the defence of a town in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, for 44 days.
The boy wonder "fought like a miracle" – firing rockets from a roof – to protect his town until reinforcements arrived.
Heartbreakingly, Wasil had lain down his weapons and returned to school like a normal 10-year-old when the cowardly insurgents gunned him down.
Wasil's uncle Mullah Abdul Samad was a Taliban commander, but he was appointed commander of the local police force after switching sides four years ago.
Mr Samad's former Taliban comrades encircled the town, killing 18 of the defenders – including little Wasil's dad.
The pocket rocket stepped up to the plate when Mr Samad and 10 of his men were wounded in a Taliban attack.
Mr Samad said: "He fought like a miracle.
"He was successfully leading my men on my behalf for 44 days until I recovered.”
