However his mother has no job and his father works in a local supermarket, and neither of them have the funds to pay for the operation.

His mum Moditor Shoko said doctors had diagnosed him as suffering from a haemangioma, a benign, non-cancerous tumour of the endothelial cells which normally line the blood vessels.

But with haemangiomas, the endothelial cells multiply rapidly with the blood vessels, forming a lump under the skin.

His dad Gilfred Mathe said after failing to find doctors that could help them in Zimbabwe, they had moved to South Africa but had been unable to come up with the cash needed for the treatment.

He said that the hospital in the township of Tembisa in Gauteng Province, in north-eastern South Africa, where they are currently staying, wanted the equivalent of 1,300 GBP to carry out the operation, which they could not afford.

Local Tembisan journalist Jantji Ngwenyama is trying to help the family by publicising the story and is hoping that somebody will step forward with a donation to pay the cost of treatment.
