Armenian official resigns over Panama Papers

The chief of the Compulsory Enforcement Service under the Armenian Justice Ministry, Mihran Poghosyan, has tended his resignation following publications about his alleged involvement in the Panama Papers, where Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's name was also mentioned, Aravot.am news website said on 18 April.
In a statement on his resignation, Poghosyan said: "My name was also involved in Armenian and international media publications on the Panama offshore [schemes]. I am sorry that my name is mentioned side by side with the family of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who in reality embezzled billions of dollars. I consider it unacceptable that my identity became a reason for a parallel between my country and the authoritarian Azerbaijan, and for that reason, I have tendered my resignation."
In the meantime, Poghosyan promised in his statement to touch on the topic of the alleged Panama Papers "as an ordinary citizen without any official leverages".
