RAF uses biggest bombs ever to wipe out evil Islamic State jihadis

A massive pair of 2,000lbs warheads wiped out a hillside barracks network belonging to the twisted terror group after being dropped in Iraq.

It is the first time the laser-guided Enhanced Paveway III (EPWIII) has been used against the bloodthirsty militants.

The EPWIII, dubbed the 'Bunker Buster' is the RAF’s biggest bomb and is four times heavier than a Paveway IV.

The deadly pair were dropped last Thursday against a bunker complex.

It included tunnels running deep underground through western Iraq.

Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said: "Day in, day out, our RAF is striking at the heart of Daesh in Syria and Iraq. These missiles enable us to hit them harder.”

RAF Tornado bombers usually carry the smaller Brimstone and Paveway IV warheads – both of which are perfect for supporting ground troops.

But the massive EPWIIIs, which are a whopping 4.39 metres long, are held in "reserve” for specialist missions.

A pair of Tornado bombers were armed with the warheads in RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus, after ground crews spotted the bunker system.

An MOD insider said the bombers then launched against a "large complex of tunnels and bunkers dug into terraced hillsides" in western Iraq.

Two Bunker Busters were dropped onto two entries to the network – causing a devastating effect.

The strike sparked a week of aerial attacks by the Air Force against ISIS militants.

On Friday a Reaper drone fired two Hellfire missiles, demolishing a workshop building deadly car bombs in Syria.

Another Reaper tracked a terrorist vehicle near Tabuqah, south-west of ISIS' de-facto capital Raqqa, before destroying it with a Hellfire.
