Kim Jong-un bans weddings and funerals in latest bonkers move

The dumpy dictator tightened his grip even further on the nation as he prepares to be crowned supreme leader of the secretive state.

Pyongyang will hold its first congress in a whopping 36 years – with the war-crazed nation expected to declare itself a nuclear-armed state.

Weddings and funerals have been cancelled for security reasons while the rogue state's congress meets.

Pyongyang has also been placed in lockdown to avoid a "mishap” during the dictator’s momentous coronation, according to sources.

Cheong Joon-hee of South Korea's Unification Ministry said: "Strengthening security can be seen as a measure to prevent mishaps over the party congress.”

North Korea announced the event last year but it will finally take place on Friday – with thousands of delegates due to travel to the capital.

Congress will last four or five days and will look into how the tyrannical nation presents its pursuit of nuclear weapons.

The secret state has restricted movement in and out of Pyongyang since mid-April, as well as stepping up its domestic surveillance.

Since January Kim has launched a spate of nuclear tests along with a host of missile tests as it looks to bolster its nuclear arsenal.
