Evil Paris attacks mastermind still at large

The man originally believed to be behind the attacks, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, was just a middle man, according to French intelligence.

Bernard Bajolet – head of the French secret service – did not name the plotter but revealed all efforts were being made to capture him.

Bajolet told French MPs: "We know the mastermind but I will remain discreet on this point."

He said Abaaoud did not plan the attacks around Paris which left 130 dead and scores injured.

Bajolet's testimony comes after a barrage of abuse from gendarmes who attacked their commander Colonel Hubert Bonneau for not leading them into battle against the savage terrorists.

Gendarmes are French paramilitary officers who are charged with police responsibilities, but contains military and special forces units too.

The National Gendarmerie special operations unit expressed their utter contempt in a letter condemning Bonneau for deploying police forces and not the gendarmes to the Bataclan.

A letter in French weekly newspaper Le Canard Enchaîné said: "Colonel Bonneau quite simply forgot to be a gendarme. We are ashamed of him and we are ashamed of ourselves.

"While we were standing by with about 40 people, ready to stop the killings, the colonel waited until he was summoned."

It is not known how many gendarmes gave their backing to the letter, but officers who did not want to be named told AFP news agency there were "a handful of discontents”.
