Man drives plane down street to pub, orders beer

An Australian man who taxied his light aircraft down a main street and parked it outside a pub is expected to be charged.

The incident saw the man steer the two-seater plane – with its propeller running and wings removed – to the Newman Hotel’s Purple Pub in Western Australia’s Pilbara region on Friday.

He then went inside and ordered a cold one, Yahoo News reports.

But though the stunt saw the man dubbed a “legend” by bar staff, it is likely to see him charged with endangering the life, health or safety of a person, under the Criminal Code.

Newman police sergeant Mark Mckenzie told the Australian Associated Press: “It was a pretty stupid thing to do.

“Kids were coming home from school. It could have been very ugly. All he needed was one gust of wind… because without the wings it’s not stable

“People think it was a bit of a laugh but it was very dangerous and we’re not very happy with it.”

ABC News reports the 37-year-old pilot’s plane was impounded and he is due to appear at the Newman Magistrates Court on 18 November.
