The transfer of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili from Gori Military Hospital to Prison No. 12 in Rustavi has been temporarily postponed, reported from the country's Special Penitentiary Service.

After the treatment of the former head of state on December 27, the medical staff decided to release him from the hospital.

"Prisoner Mikheil Saakashvili did not comply with the lawful request of the Special Penitentiary Service, and there were pressure fluctuations due to some health issues. For this reason, a decision was made to temporarily postpone his transfer to prison," the statement said.

Saakashvili was detained in Tbilisi on October 1 and placed in a prison in Rustavi. He was treated at the Gldani Prison Hospital in Tbilisi on November 8. The politician, who has been on a 50-day hunger strike, was transferred to a military hospital in Gori on November 20. Saakashvili then stopped the hunger strike.
