Heineken, Mothercare leave Russia, UPM suspends purchasing of wood to Russia

Heineken will stop its exports to Russia because of the situation in Ukraine, reported from foreign media.
All new investments in the country have also been halted, the brewer confirms after reporting by NRC and others.
Heineken makes the beers Zhigulevskoe and Oxota for the local market in Russia. With approximately 1,800 employees, the company claims to be the third largest brewer in the country. However, the Russian market represents less than two percent of Heineken's worldwide sales.
A statement from the brewer says nothing about restrictions on local production. Heineken does indicate that the brewing and beverage sector is not subject to sanctions.
Heineken will continue to monitor developments closely in the coming days and weeks.
Moreover, British baby products retailer Mothercare said on Wednesday all its business in Russia, including shipment of all products, has been suspended following Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
The company said its local partner in Russia will be pausing operations in about 120 stores and online.
Russia represents around 20% to 25% of Mothercare’s worldwide retail sales and was previously expected to contribute around 0.5 million pounds ($0.7 million) per month to group profit.
Meanwhile, UPM will suspend purchasing of wood in and from Russia as well as the UPM Chudovo plywood mill operations for the time being. The company is preparing a mitigation plan accordingly. UPM also informed on March 3, 2022 that it will cease deliveries to Russia.
