Russian symbols may be banned in Georgia
26.04.2022 11:30
Georgia proposes to ban the use of the St. George ribbon, the symbols "Z" and "V” .

Opposition MPs Salome Samadashvili and Ana Natsvlishvili have drafted amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses.

The bill envisages fines for glorifying, justifying, or supporting Russia's aggression against Georgia, Ukraine, or any other state in any form and by any means, as well as for the distribution, use, and carrying of symbols.

It is proposed to impose a fine of 2,000 Georgian laris on individuals and 5,000 laris on legal entities. In case of repeated violations, an individual can be fined 5,000 laris or administratively detained for 15 days. A fine of 10,000 laris will be imposed on a legal entity.

The legislative initiative will be presented at today's meeting of the parliamentary bureau.

The use of the symbols "Z" and "V", and the St.George ribbon have recently been banned in Moldova.
