US to increase defense spending by $37B

Lawmakers on the House Armed Services Committee of the US Congress amended the draft defense budget of the country for the next year, as a result, it grew by $37 billion, including by increasing the military assistance provided to Ukraine to $1 billion, reported from foreign media.

The first version of the draft budget, which the committee presented on June 20, indicated that the cost of military assistance to Kyiv would amount to $450 million. The document also says that the head of the Pentagon is proposed to be given the authority to provide Ukrainian authorities with support in the field of intelligence and security.

Amendments to the draft defense budget of the US were approved by a majority of committee members. As many as 42 congressmen voted "for" it, and 17 - "against".
