Erdogan: 'Grain agreement is important for global food security'

"With the delivery of more than 11 million tonnes of grains and foodstuffs to those in need via approximately 500 ships over the past four months, the significance and benefits of this agreement for the food supply and security of the world have become evident,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan tweeted.

"I would like to thank United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, President Putin of Russia, and President Zelensky of Ukraine, for their willingness to prolong the agreement, and I would also like to congratulate all those who contributed,” he added.

On November 17, an agreement was reached to extend the Grain Agreement for another 120 days.

On July 22, a package of documents was signed in Istanbul to solve the problem of supplying food and fertilizers to world markets. One of the agreements regulates the procedure for exporting grain from Black Sea ports controlled by Kyiv. The Joint Coordination Center in Istanbul, established by Russia, Turkiye, Ukraine, and the UN, is designed to prevent arms smuggling and inspect grain-carrying ships to rule out sabotage.
