Grossi: All nuke plants in Ukraine switched off on November 23 for first time in history

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said on November 24 that for the first time in history, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plants, as well as the Rivne, Khmelnytsky and South Ukrainian NPPs, which are under the control of Kyiv, lost access to external energy supply in one day.
While the whole world is closely watching the dangerous situation at this Europe's largest nuclear power plant, one shouldn’t forget about the nuclear power plants that are located on the territory of Ukraine, Grossi said, stressing that on November 23 from external energy supply at the same time all three nuclear power plants controlled by Kyiv, as well as the Zaporizhzhia NPP, were shut down.
They all had to rely on emergency diesel generators to generate the electricity needed to maintain nuclear safety, he added.
Grossi is convinced that just a few months ago it was impossible to even imagine such an unprecedented situation and this inspires serious concern.
He also noted that the IAEA is moving forward on the issue of creating a security zone around the Zaporizhzhia plant.
