Moldovan parliamentarian: Russia is trying to involve Moldova in armed conflict

Moldovan parliamentarian: Russia is trying to involve Moldova in armed conflict
13.03.2023 13:00
The war in Ukraine has a serious impact on the situation in the region, member of the Moldovan Parliament, Vitalie Jacot, said.

According to him, Russia is trying to involve Moldova in an armed conflict and use its territory for military operations against Ukraine: "It uses all the possibilities at its disposal for this purpose. This includes involving a group of people who may participate in an armed conflict under the guise of tourists, disseminating news about the placement of explosives in various state bodies, and holding protests by pro-Russian forces, etc."

He added that people participating in these protests receive financial resources.

Jacot emphasized that Moscow is mainly trying to destabilize Transnistria with the abovementioned steps: "Russian troops - "peacekeeping contingent" - have been deployed in this region. Moreover, it has the largest ammunition depot in Europe. Therefore, Moscow would like to use these opportunities against Ukraine. This includes Russia's desire to conduct military operations in the direction of the Ukrainian cities of Odesa and Mykolaiv. But the Moldovan authorities can control the situation."

The MP noted that Moldovan officials constantly contact their Ukrainian counterparts and actively exchange information: "There is no reason for concern in the region yet. The Kremlin cannot destabilize Moldova to draw it into an armed conflict.”
