Romania to buy latest generation of F-35 fighters

Romania will acquire US fifth-generation F-35 fighters, reported from TASS.

This decision was made at a meeting on April 11 by members of the Romanian Supreme Defense Council, which brings together the country’s top leaders and heads of law enforcement agencies.

"The process of modernization of the Air Force will be continued by acquiring the latest generation of aircraft F-35,” reads a message posted on the website of the administration of the Romanian president. The Concept for Realizing the Operational Potential of Air Defense by Fifth-Generation Multifunctional Aircraft has been approved.

The meeting participants also considered issues of security in the Black Sea region, developments in Ukraine and Moldova. "Support for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova directly contributes to strengthening the security of Romania,” the message says.

The meeting participants analyzed "the best ways to support the Republic of Moldova”, emphasizing "the need to adapt to the developments in the region,” the presidential administration notes.
