Political scientist: Aggravation of situation on Armenia-Azerbaijan border beneficial for Yerevan

The EU is interested in expanding its mission in Armenia on the border with Azerbaijan, Russian political scientist, director of the Center for Political Studies Sergey Markov said.

"Armenia, which is an ally of the European Union, is also interested in outbreaks of tension in order to justify the expansion of the EU mission and its transformation from civilian to civil-military,” Markov said, noting that therefore the aggravation of the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is now beneficial to Yerevan.

At the same time, the Russian political scientist noted that from a military-technical point of view, Armenia cannot resist Azerbaijan in any way, and in the event of a military provocation, "the Armenian army will be completely defeated.”

On April 11, units of the Armenian Armed Forces from positions in the direction of the Dig settlement, Goris region, subjected to intensive fire from small arms the positions of the Azerbaijani army in the Lachin direction.

When preventing the provocation of the Armenian side, servicemen of the Azerbaijani army Vidadi Zalov, Elshad Hasanov and Sabuhi Tagiyev became martyrs.

As a result of the measures taken by the Azerbaijani army in response to the provocation of the Armenian Armed Forces on the conditional state border, four Armenian servicemen were killed and six were injured.
