Zakharova comments on Armenia’s desire to join NATO

Countries seeking rapprochement with NATO must understand how unsafe this is and what consequences it will lead to, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a briefing, answering a question from News.ru about Armenia’s desire to join the Alliance.

She noted that before making such decisions, official Yerevan should analyze the situation in the country itself: "We need to understand what the national interests of Armenia itself are, what is beneficial, what brings short-term benefits, what medium-term, what long-term, and proceed from this. The West makes promises to everyone. I’m just wondering where and what they fulfilled.”
