Teacher arrested after getting entire class to beat up eight-year-old boy

The eight-year-old victim had attempted to leave class before the bell rang out and was punished by the teacher who ‘immobilized’ the boy as his classmates slapped him, his parents claim. The man, who has worked in the area for 26 years, is said to have ordered two pupils to block the door to the classroom while the beating was carried out.The boy’s parents filed a lawsuit against the teacher after their son came home with injuries on his face and told them what had happened. The teacher was detained on Tuesday and the boy was taken to a local hospital.A medical report said the boy had ‘severe injuries to his face,’ Keep Talking Greece reports.According to local media, the teacher is disliked by parents for using outdated methods of teaching and discipline.Students in Arta described him as ‘a tough and irascible man who uses the excuse of making a joke in order to display bad behavior towards his students,’ the website said. The Director of Primary Education in Arta prefecture told newsit.gr, that depending on the prosecutor’s decision, the teacher may be dismissed from the school service.Corporal punishment was banned in Greek primary schools in 1998, and in secondary schools in 2005. A year later, in 2006, it was also outlawed in the home.(dailymail.co.uk)ANN.Az
